Abstract
Due to the lack of testing procedures and evaluation of personal protective equipment (PPE) against the hazards of coherent and non-coherent UV radiation, a certified protection of the skin cannot currently be delivered. The contents of the presentation are the legal conditions that PPE has to fulfill in the working area of freely accessible ultraviolet radiation. The main focus of the test methods such as spectrometric measurement, measurement of the transmitted laser radiation in a small power range and the high power radiation test procedure will be discussed in detail. An optimized method for simultaneous measurement of optical measurements and measurements by different impact angles on UV radiation parameters will be shown in detail. Another part of the presentation is the work on requirements of test and certification procedures regarding the European PPE Directive. For this reason, different physical-textile examination components are presented and discussed. To provide a reproducible test sequence of protective textiles within the presentation a testing rig will be explained. This testing rig provides a semi-automatic testing sequence for the measurement of protective textiles against UV irradiation.
