New member of the Scientific Directorate at the Laser Zentrum Hannover e.V. – Prof. Dr. Alexander Heisterkamp

The Board of Directors of the Laser Zentrum Hannover e.V. appointed Prof. Dr. Alexander Heisterkamp to the Scientific Directorate of the research institute.

Prof. Heisterkamp started his professional career at the Faculty of Physics of the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Universität (LUH) in Hannover (formerly “Universität Hannover”). After receiving his PhD in May 2002, and after a research period at the Harvard University in Boston (US), Alexander Heisterkamp obtained a junior professorship for biophotonics at the LUH in 2006. In 2009, he became full professor for biophotonics at the Institute of Quantum Optics at the Leibniz Universität. Shortly afterwards, he was appointed Head of the Biomedical Optics Department at the LZH.

In 2011, Heisterkamp obtained a W2 professorship at the Institute of Applied Optics at the Friedrich-Schiller University of Jena. He founded his own research group focusing on “the application of lasers in medicine”. At the beginning of this year, Prof. Heisterkamp took over a W3 professorship at the Institute of Quantum Optics of the LUH.

As a member of the Scientific Directorate of the LZH, Heisterkamp shall contribute his expertise in the field of biophotonics.

„I am looking forward to working with the Scientific Directorate, and I am particularly keen on strengthening the interdisciplinary cooperation between physicists, chemists and physicians in this research field in Hannover”, emphasizes Heisterkamp.
