Job

The Laser Zentrum Hannover e.V. (LZH) is a leading institute in the field of applied laser research. Approximately 250 employees carry out basic and applied research and develop solutions for industry. The Fiber Optics Group of our Laser Development Department invites applications for a

Student for a Project work or Master's thesis in the field of process development for manufacturing fiber-optical components
Discipline/branch of study: Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Optical Technologies or similar
(Job-ID: 72855)

The Fiber Optics group at the Laser Zentrum Hannover e. V. is involved in the development of innovative optical components for fiber lasers and amplifier systems. The focus is on special fibers and high-performance applications with exceptional beam quality. This includes not only the design of the required optical components and their production, but also their integration into high-power laser systems. One of the optical components manufactured by the group are signal-pump combiners, which are used to introduce the power of a pump laser into the signal fiber of fiber laser systems, thus enabling efficient power transmission and stable operation. During the project work or Master’s thesis the current manufacturing process of signal-pump combiners should be evaluated and optimized.

Main tasks:

  • Production of signal-pump combiners
  • Optimization of the manufacturing process
  • Characterization and evaluation of the manufactured combiners
  • Independent planning and execution of experiments
  • Evaluation, processing and discussion of experimental results

Working environment:

  • Working in the research group at the LZH offers you an extraordinary environment and the best conditions. We offer you:
  • An interdisciplinary team consisting of physicists and engineers
  • Insight into current research topics
  • Supervision of work and professional support

Job requirements:

  • Completed Bachelor's degree (photonics, physics, or similar) and currently enrolled in a degree program in physics, mechanical engineering, optical technologies or similar
  • Ideally, initial experience in working with laser beam sources
  • Practical experience in the fields of optics & photonics and electronics would be an advantage
  • Structured, responsible and goal-oriented approach to work
  • Severely disabled applicants with equal qualification will be given particular consideration.
  • The LZH emphasizes gender equality.
