Dr. Moritz Hinkelmann, Head of the Photonic Integration Department at the Laser Zentrum Hannover (LZH), has been awarded the 2025 Prize of the Scientific Society for Laser Technology and Photonics (Wissenschaftlichen Gesellschaft Lasertechnik und Photonik e.V. (WLT).

He received the award during the Plenary Session & WLT Award Ceremony at the international LiM 2025 conference in Munich, presented by the WLT board member Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jean Pierre Bergmann in recognition of his contributions to the field of applied laser technology.

Dr. Hinkelmann completed his bachelor's degree in Physical Engineering at the Lübeck University of Applied Sciences (formerly Fachhochschule Lübeck) in 2014. He earned his master's degree in Optical Technologies in 2016. In 2019, he received his PhD from Leibniz University Hannover with a dissertation titled “Compact and efficient sub-10 ps pump sources at 2 µm for the generation of coherent mid-infrared radiation.”

Dr. Hinkelmann has been working at the LZH since 2016. He began his career here as a research associate in the Ultrafast Photonics group. From 2020 to 2024, he led the Optical Systems group in the Laser Development Department. Since 2025, he has held the position of Head of the Photonic Integration Department.

Commitment to the Professional Community

From 2021 to 2024, he served as Managing Director of the WLT. In 2024, he became Managing Director of PhotonicNet GmbH and has been a member of the Cluster of Excellence PhoenixD since 2020.

His main research areas include ultrashort pulse laser development, laser micromachining, additive optics manufacturing, and integrated photonics.
