Abstract
The additive manufacturing process Laser Glass Deposition is a novel alternative to conventional manufacturing processes for individualized optics. In this process a CO2 laser is used as a heat source to melt supplied fused silica filaments. Optical components like beam shaping lenses can be manufactured using a defined process strategy. In this work, on-chip production of additively manufactured optical waveguides and lenses is demonstrated. Studies with variations in laser power, filament feed rate, and line spacing are presented. The focus is on preserving the optical properties of waveguides and lenses while exploiting design flexibility in an automated production environment.
