Additively Manufactured Polymer Optomechanics and Their Application in Laser Systems
We exploit the advantages of additive manufacturing for the production of lightweight and cost-effective optomechanical systems. By 3D printing corresponding components based on the Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) process, we examine potentials and limitations to create complex, function-integrated optomechanical systems. For this purpose, the mounting of individual optics, their integration in adjustable optomechanics, as well as the mounting and cooling of active optical elements are investigated and characterized. In each case, comparisons are made with conventional and commercial components. Based on this, the optomechanics for one of the most demanding optics assembly, a complete laser system, are 3D printed. Recommendations regarding possible fields of application are then derived from the results. In addition, further development potentials towards higher function integration are named and paths to their achievement are outlined.
