The Photonic Materials group works with deposition and measurement processes for optical thin film applications, focusing on improving or expanding existing processes and developing new methods. One area of crucial importance to laser applications is the testing and certification of optics at a given laser power which is conventionally this is determined through destructive testing. A method which has shown promise as an alternative attempting to predict the impending damage by measuring the changes in absorption at high intensities using femtosecond pulses. In the process of our research and development we are offering a position of student assistant in the areas of optical characterization and nonlinear optics. The topic offers the ability to conduct a thesis. The start of employment is flexible, though an earlier start is desired. Priority is given to ensuring a longer-term position.
