Bachelor/Master Thesis "Evaluation of structural properties on film systems fabricated through classical molecular dynamics"
Field of study: physics with a focus on optical technologies

Background/Approach:

The simulation of film growth has become very important in recent years. It allows the modeling of idealized layers and layer systems and the investigation of layer formation processes depending on different initial and boundary conditions.
Various simulation techniques are used at LZH. For the modeling of layer growth, classical molecular dynamics has proven to be a helpful tool. This simulation technique is, at the same time, the main focus of the announced work. In the context of the further development of the model and the evaluation of the obtained data, numerous questions offer themselves for investigation and treatment. In the work context, classical MD structures are to be examined through a structure analysis tool. If necessary, new tools will be developed.

The work in the research group at LZH offers you a unique environment and the best conditions. We offer:

  • An interdisciplinary team of physicists.
  • A computing cluster and the necessary software are available at the LZH for these tasks
  • Examiners and supervisors for the bachelor thesis on site
  • Specific training to promote your individual strengths

Tasks include:

Investigation of existing classical and quantum mechanical model structures using appropriate analysis software (software available)
Development of further evaluation programs for structural analysis

Course of study/subject area: Physics

Recruitment Requirements/Qualifications:

  • The advertisement is addressed to students (f/m) of physics with basic knowledge in the field of numerical simulations
  • Admission to a master's thesis or bachelor's degree (required coursework should be completed before starting the thesis)
  • Pleasure to contribute to our research team in a creative and dedicated way
