MOONRISE at WAMS 2026

Moonrise auf der WAMS 2026
07 July 2026

At this year's Workshop on Advanced Manufacturing for Space (WAMS), held at ESA-ESTEC in Noordwijk, the Netherlands, LZH presented the latest results from the MOONRISE project.

WAMS-Vortrag

Tim Eismann's presentation in the conference program

In his talk entitled "Recent developments in laser beam melting of lunar regolith for in-situ resource utilisation," Tim Eismann of LZH reported on the most recent findings from the MOONRISE project. He demonstrated how the (crystalline) water content in the regolith simulant and varying particle sizes influence the laser beam melting process and its outcomes. He also presented how porosity and surface roughness can be improved and reduced, respectively, through targeted remelting of the sample surface.

The event provided an excellent setting for the technical exchange of findings and ideas with fellow researchers working in the fields of regolith processing and in-situ resource utilisation (ISRU).

ESA's dedicated forum for manufacturing in space

WAMS is the European Space Agency's (ESA) dedicated forum for advanced manufacturing technologies in the space sector. Its central focus is the question of how novel manufacturing processes are transforming the design and production of space hardware.
