With laser-based surface treatment, fiber-reinforced plastics can especially be prepared for repairing steps and adhesive bonding.


The group „Composites“  prepares composites for repair by creating acute angles using laser ablation. They calculate and design the geometry of the ablation, and determine the process strategies depending on the material and layer structure. Thus, the group offers a process free of forces for CFRP material removal, and provides reproducible and automatable processes. It is also possible to generate 3-D structures.

Here, pulsed disc and fiber lasers in the near infrared range (NIR) and pulsed 3ω solid-state lasers in the UV range are used.
