The LZH can analyze the quality of glass materials with optical tension analyses, SEM examinations, microscopy and strength investigations.


The group “Glass” can measure, examine and analyze the quality of glass materials with a number of analysis methods.

Residual stress of a glass component can e.g. be investigated using a polarimeter. The quality of the processing methods can, among other things, be determined by a surface analysis of the workpiece. For example, samples can be examined for pores under a microscope, or the edges of ablated coatings can be investigated. In further examinations with a scanning electron microscope (SEM), the surface structure can be displayed with a high depth of focus.

The material composition of the glass can be determined using energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy at the LZH.

Furthermore, the group “Glass” can carry out strength tests to determine the bending strength of a sample under tension.

All measurement results are competently evaluated and can be used as a basis for further consultations.
