Consulting and measurements services for laser safety at laser systems
 Laserwarnzeichen

To support the classification of laser systems, the accessible radiation can be measured and compared to the relevant limit values (AEL: accessible emission limit  according to DIN EN 60825-1). Moreover, hazard analyses of laser systems can be prepared by measuring or calculating irradiation powers, and then comparing them to the relevant exposure limit values (Maximum Permissible Exposure: MPE)  for the eye and the skin according to the European Directive 2006/25/EC or to the German Ordinance to Protect Workers against Risks Arising from Artificial Optical Radiation (OStrV).

Normally, the measurements at laser systems on-site are carried out on the company’s premises, and are evaluated according to the normative regulations. If necessary, calculations based on the geometric optics are used. Small, portable laser systems can also be tested at the Laser Zentrum Hannover e.V..

The accessible radiation is determined according to DIN EN 60825-1, and compared to the relevant limit values. The irradiation powers are determined according to the European Directive 2006/25/EG or according to the Ordinance to Protect Workers against Risks Arising from Artificial Optical Radiation (OStrV) and then compared to the relevant exposure limit values (MPE) for the eye and skin.

This service is, among others, relevant for the following areas:

Consulting, development and contract research:

  • Occupational safety, environmental protection
  • Minimization of radiation, emission control
  • Hazard analyses for laser systems
  • Laser safety
  • Process and system development
  • Technology consulting and transfer
