Scientific Researcher (m/f/d) Discipline/branch of study Optical Technologies / Laser Engineering or similar (Master) with a focus on ultrashort pulse laser

The Laser Zentrum Hannover e.V. (LZH) is a leading institute in the field of applied laser research. Approximately 250 employees carry out basic and applied research and develop solutions for industry. The Ultrafast Photonics Group of our Laser Development Department invites applications for a

Scientific Researcher (m/f/d)
Discipline/branch of study Optical Technologies / Laser Engineering or similar (Master) with a focus on ultrashort pulse laser

The group Ultrafast Photonics is engaged in the generation and amplification of ultrashort laser pulses in the picosecond and femtosecond range. With novel beam sources in the visible to mid-infrared range, the group spans the spectrum from fundamental R & D to applications such as multiphoton microscopy or laser material processing. However, the current approaches used to achieve higher pulse energies with simultaneously very short pulse durations in fiber amplifiers are limited. Your work will overcome these limitations with new techniques to scale the pulse characteristics. You will familiarize yourself with existing technologies and test them for further scalability. This will be carried with the aid of simulations and design of stretcher-compressor arrangements. You will transform the designed laser systems into prototypes in the laboratory, characterize them and optimize their performance.

Main tasks:

  • Design, construction and characterization of novel ultrashort pulse fiber lasers and amplifiers
  • Investigation on new technologies for scaling of pulse characteristics
  • Independent planning and execution of experiments as well as support of the results with simulations

Im Rahmen der beschriebenen Tätigkeiten besteht die Möglichkeit zur Promotion.

Working environment:

At the LZH you will find an attractive working environment. We offer you:

  • An interdisciplinary team consisting of scientists and engineers
  • A close cooperation with various partners from industry and research who will help you to develop and implement your ideas
  • Targeted trainings to promote your individual strengths and to develop core competencies

Job requirements:

  • A technical degree (M.Sc.) with above-average grades in the disciplines/branches of Optical Technologies, Laser engineering or equivalent
  • Ideally experience with ultrashort pulse laser systems
  • Further (practical) experience in optics and photonics is advantageous
  • Good knowledge of the English language
  • Structured, responsible and goal-oriented work with the ability to contribute independently and productively to the team

Employment and remuneration are based upon the civil service collective agreement for Federal States (TV‑L; up to ¾ E13 depending on your qualification). The position offers the opportunity to gain a PhD.

Severely disabled applicants with equal qualification will be given particular consideration.

The LZH emphasizes gender equality.
