Consulting and measurements services for laser safety at laser systems

To support the classification of laser systems, the accessible radiation can be measured and compared to the relevant limit values (AEL: accessible emission limit  according to DIN EN 60825-1). Moreover, hazard analyses of laser systems can be prepared by measuring or calculating irradiation powers, and then comparing them to the relevant exposure limit values (Maximum Permissible Exposure: MPE)  for the eye and the skin according to the European Directive 2006/25/EC or to the German Ordinance to Protect Workers against Risks Arising from Artificial Optical Radiation (OStrV).

Emission prognosis for the laser processing of organic materials

When natural materials, plastics or organic composites are processed with laser radiation, gaseous emissions are released apart from the particulate emissions. In the course of an emission prognosis, the gaseous main component can be determined in order to prepare workplace analyses according to TRGS 402 (German Technical Rule on Hazardous Substances no. 402) and emission characterizations according to TA Luft (German Technical Instructions on Air Quality Control).

Prognosis of particulate emissions during laser material processing

 

Gaschromatogramm eines CFK-Werkstoffes mit Polyphenylensulfid-Matrix.

The method provides a prognosis of the particulate emissions arising during the laser processing of a given material. Both, the absolute amounts of particles and the particle size distributions to be expected in industrial laser processes can be determined approximately. The results serve as a basis for workplace analyses according to TRGS 402 (German Technical Rule on Hazardous Substances no. 402) and emission characterizations according to TA Luft (German Technical Instructions on Air Quality Control).
