Laser Structuring of CIGS Thin Film Solar Modules (LaserLining)

Project duration:
1 December 2010 - 30 November 2012
Sponsored by:
AiF / EFDS

The goal of the research project is laser structuring (P1-P3) of thin films and the development of alternative layer combinations for CIGS solar modules. Among the work carried out is

  • The development of laser structuring processes for thin film materials as a substitute for mechanical structuring tools, and investigations on improved module efficiency based on an active area increase
  • Optimization of CIGS modules. Investigations will be carried out on representative layer materials and on materials availabe on a laboratory scale with a higher future potential.
  • Investigations on alternative layer materials, concerning production of CIGS solar cells and laser structuring. This should make the use of inexpensive laser sources for structuring possible.
  • Investigating concepts for the integral optimization of the manufacturing processes by combining laser structuring and layer optimization.
