The Laser Zentrum Hannover e. V. is one of the leading institutions in the field of applied laser research. More than 250 staff are employed in the fields of basic research, applied research and industrial project development. The Surface Technology Group in the Department of Materials and Processes is looking for a
Scientific Assistant, respectively PhD student
(specializing in engineering, materials technology, materials sciences, or similar fields; diploma or M.Sc.)
for work in a special research field concerning regeneration of complex investment goods. The goal of the project is to repair monocrystalline turbine blades after crack damage. After a laser welding process has been developed, the damaged area of the turbine blade should be restored in a monocrystalline structure. First the crystalline structure will be simulated. Following this, in cooperation with an industrial partner, the process technology necessary for monocrystalline laser welding will be developed.
The main emphasis of work is on:
- Simulation of the crystalline structure of the laser welding process using Ansys, MICRESS and ThermoCalc
- Design and construction of process technology, including smaller design tasks
- Experiments with monocrystalline laser welding
- Metallographic analysis and EBSD investigations of the samples
- Publication and presentation of the project results
- Supervision and guidance of students
We are looking for a dedicated co-worker with a sound knowledge of materials sciences. As a basis for process simulation, a good fundamental knowledge of FEM simulation is expected. An excellent knowledge of spoken and written German is necessary to ensure successful cooperation in the special research field as well as with the cooperating industrial partners. Also, teamwork is of utmost importance. Within the framework of the project you will be expected to work self-sufficiently and in a structured manner. You should enjoy presenting the results of your work to other experts.
Furthermore, knowledge of the software Ansys, Solid Edge, MICRESS und ThermoCalc would be of help. Experience in the area of laser technology and induction technology as well as in aviation and space technology is also helpful.
Within the framework of the project, you will have the opportunity to obtain a doctorate degree. Payment is based on the German TV-L (depending on your qualifications up to TV-L E13).
