Technologies for Non-Metals
Main fields of work
The department Technologies for Non-Metals develops laser-based solutions for various industrial topics with special focus on glass processing, photovoltaics and machining and processing of reinforced plastics. The main areas of research at the LZH in this field are processes and systems to structure, cut, form non-metals as well as joining techniques. For this purpose, sectoral solutions for the application of laser technologies in basic research projects and for the implementation of prototype production are being developed.
The concepts are usually key technologies for the user or enable an increase in quality and productivity. Exemplary objectives are the production of solar collectors using glass-metal/glass-glass compounds, new cell concepts for photovoltaics using “cold” laser processing or automated repair of composite materials. Objectives range from the development of a productive precision processing within the micrometer range to high productive throughput optimization for large areas.
