Laser additive manufacturing processes from the micro to the macro scale are the research and development focuses of the Surface Technology Group. Among other things, these processes are used for biomedical implants and functional system components made of special materials such as magnesium, nickel, titanium or shape memory alloys. In that way, both bioresorbable implants as well as innovative diagnostic and therapy systems can be designed.

A further focus of this group is surface structuring. Surfaces can be locally roughened, for example to increase the adhesion of subsequently added layers, or to produce rough areas.
