Current Projects and Activities

Exhibitions at Fairs in 2010

At the Hannover Messe, LASYS Glasstec  and EUROBLECH , the LZH presented themselves as a competent research and development partner. The technical focus was on
  • ·      Laser Welding on the macro and micro level
  • ·      Surface treatment with the laser
  • ·      Laser applications in the fields of photovoltaics and glass processing
  • ·      Laser processing of composite materials
  • ·      Coatings for laser optics

Parliamentary Evening

Together with the Board of Directors and the management, the Communications Group organized a parliamentary evening on June 8th, 2010 in the restaurant Leineschloss. The President of the Parliament Dinkla opened the event, with participants from the State Parliament, and guests from politics and industry, including Ministers Bode, Möllring and Schünemann and the State Secretary for Finances Ms. Hermenau.

Farewell Celebration and Presentation of the Order of Merit from the State of Lower Saxony to Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dr.-Ing. E.h. mult. Dr. med. h.c. Heinz Haferkamp

On November 19th, 2010, LZH founder Professor Heinz Haferkamp officially retired from the Board of Directors. A celebration was held with over 60 guests from the areas of politics and industry and from the LZH at which the Minister of Economics Jörg Bode released Haferkamp. Three days later, in recognition of his excellent achievements for science in Lower Saxony, the Minister of Science Professor Johanna Wanka presented Professor Haferkamp with the merit of honour of the State of Lower Saxony. The Communications Group supported the Board of Directors and the Management in organizing and carrying out both events.

Online-Marketing

Five Video-Podcasts on current R&D topics were produced as a new marketing instrument. The podcasts are available (in German) on zu aktuellen F&E-Themen sowohl on www.lzh.de and on www.youtube.com:
Furthermore, the LZH homepage was enhanced by a picture gallery (Bildergalerie).

Strategic projects

In the framework of the activities in the field of “strategic projects”, the Communications Group operates the administrative offices of the European Optical Society (EOS). Apart from membership management and the election of the board of directors in 2010, five scientific-technical events were organized. On the European level, the administrative offices of the EOS support the offices of the European technology platform Photonics21. Entitled „How optics and photonics address Europe’s challenges of the 21st century“, a broschure and a web gallery have been published.

Business development

In cooperation with unitransfer and the Leibniz Universität Hannover (LUH), and within the scope of the EU and BMWi funded EXIST project „startingbusiness“, the Communications Group supports spin-off companies from universities and other non-university research institutes.
 
Through many courses such as intensive workshops or the „EXIST-priME-Cup“, for acquiring capital (research transfer, founding campus), or through support for setting up business plans startingbusiness supports high-tech start-up companies through the whole spin-off process. Since the beginning of the program, 52 founding teams have been supported, and 17 spin-off companies have been founded with the support of startingbusiness, and a source for over 2,2 million Euros in financial funds has been acquired.

Internal services

Internal services provided by the Communications Group are operating the LZH library and assisting researchers in literature research and publishing scientific manuscripts. In addition, the Communications Group is responsible for Customer Relations and Knowledge Management.
